When Apex Geotechnical Engineers approached Spark Interact, they were already delivering solid engineering work — but their online presence didn’t reflect their professional capabilities. They had a logo and a vision for what they wanted, but needed a digital platform that could grow with their business and help them reach new clients through search.
The Challenge: Taking the Professional Leap
The team at Apex had been operating successfully, but they knew they needed something more professional to compete effectively. Their primary goal was straightforward: they wanted professional web design and development services that would deliver a clean, professional website showcasing their expertise without unnecessary frills.
The initial brief was simple: a five-page website that would establish their professional presence online. However, as often happens with growing businesses, their needs evolved as they began to see the potential of what a well-structured digital presence could achieve.
Phase 1: Building the Foundation
The project began with a straightforward approach — a clean, minimalistic design that would let their work speak for itself. Marcel, the lead designer, faced an interesting challenge: geotechnical engineering doesn’t lend itself to dramatic imagery, and the visual brief was quite specific.
“Finding imagery for geotechnical engineering is a little bit hard,” Marcela Moscardini, UI Design Lead recalls. “We didn’t really know about the full details of their specialisations at first, but I tried to create a simple design that is quite interesting and at the same time minimalistic.”
The team developed custom icons for each of Apex’s services, creating a cohesive visual language that would help visitors understand their capabilities at a glance. The homepage was structured to provide a comprehensive overview showing services prominently so visitors could either navigate directly to what they needed or explore the full range of offerings.
This strategic approach proved important when questions arose about the homepage layout. The team explained how different visitors approach websites differently: some come with specific needs and head straight to the services section, while others prefer to explore and understand the full scope of what a company offers.

Phase 2: Adapting to Growth
As the website took shape, something interesting happened — Apex began to see the potential for digital growth. They started expressing interest in search engine optimisation, wanting their content populated with relevant keywords to improve their visibility online.
“They really wanted keywords populated in the content that was geard to search and Ai results,” Carol Lobo – Project Manager explains. “The individual project pages became important to them because having more content meant better search results.”
This shift represented a crucial evolution in their thinking. What started as a simple website project was becoming a platform for business growth. The initial five-page structure, while functional, wasn’t going to support their expanding vision for how they could use their digital presence to attract new clients.
The team worked with Apex to enhance their project showcase within the existing scope, creating a sophisticated filtering system and carousel display that would let them highlight multiple projects with imagery and descriptions, without individual project pages.
Phase 3: Building for the Future
After the website launched, Apex’s confidence in their digital strategy — and in Spark’s approach — had grown significantly. They could see the value of having more content online and understood how it connected to their business goals.
“After we designed the website for them, they started to feel more trust in what we were doing,” Carol notes. “They then decided that they would like to pursue the individual project pages within a service arrangement.”
This led to an ongoing partnership where Spark now works with Apex monthly to expand their content, adding individual project pages and blog content that supports their SEO goals. It’s a perfect example of how a website can evolve from a simple digital brochure into a growth engine for the business.
The final result balances Apex’s preference for straightforward professionalism with strategic elements that support their business objectives. While they opted for a cleaner aesthetic over some of the more interactive elements initially proposed, the site successfully positions them as the professional engineering consultancy they are.

The Outcome: A Platform Ready to Scale
Today, Apex Consultancy has a professional digital presence that accurately reflects their capabilities and provides a foundation for continued growth. The website successfully showcases their expertise while supporting their SEO objectives through strategic content placement and structure.
More importantly, the project established a partnership approach that allows Apex to expand their digital presence as their business grows. The monthly engagement for additional project pages and blog content means their website continues to evolve and strengthen their position in search results.
The collaboration demonstrates how understanding a client’s core business needs, even when those needs evolve during the project, can lead to solutions that truly support their long-term success. For Apex, it wasn’t about creating the flashiest website; it was about building a professional platform that would grow with their business and help them reach the right clients.
The ongoing partnership continues to strengthen Apex’s online presence, adding value month by month as they build the content foundation that will support their business development goals for years to come.
